The author of the following analysis is completing a master of educational technology at the University of British Colombia in Canada. He takes the role of an Educational Venture Analyst (EVA) to evaluate all potential business opportunities within an identified venture in learning technology. The aim is to identify possibilities to contribute to and develop business opportunities to successfully generate an expected return related to the investment. Introduction to the ventureBill and Melinda Gates foundation works with worldwide partners to tackle critical problems. Agricultural development is one of them. Under its Department of Global Growth and Opportunity, the Gates foundation ventures in learning technology to create a solution to support country-led inclusive agricultural transformation across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. The goals are to increase agricultural productivity for smallholder farmers, to increase smallholder farmer household income, to increase equitable consumption of safe, affordable, nutritious, diet year-round, to increase women’s empowerment in agriculture.

In order to supplement their venture in learning technology that is providing farmers with a digital access to agricultural data, the gates foundation also focus on enabling country systems, crop discovery and translational sciences, livestock, global policy and advocacy, women’s empowerment, seed systems and varietal improvement, nutritious food systems, and policy data.
